Mission a huge SUCCESS!!
Update from Tom Clements
- Fri 5/2
I just got off the phone from Tom Clements who is heading for bed on their last
day at Bibiani. He sounded exhausted. They travel tomorrow to Accra, leaving at
8 am for the trip home on Sunday. Tom mentioned that have spent a very long week
of hardwork, but rewarding work. The team saw over 1,500 patients, but could
have seen more. At times, Tom and Don Madda, were the "policeman" that had to
turn people away. It was a difficult task keeping the crowd in control. Every
day they awoke at 5:30 and bed time was 10:00. Very filling days for everyone,
and a succesful mission
The entire team
spent the first Saturday making house calls in the area, preaching and spreading
the word. Sunday was spent at Church most of the day handing out prayer cards
and rosaries. Then during the week, the medical mission went to a near by
village - Sunyani (I believe that is the village, the phone connection was not
that good) to look at the sick and those that needed healing. You will hear more
about the medical mission accomplishments when they return home.
Tom did have a
chance to meet the new Headmaster at St. Joseph's. He spent 3 hours going over
objectives. He appears to be a good man with five years spent at Fordham. He has
good solid understanding of the role Father Simon and the Clap for Jesus
organization have on the overall building of the school. The facility looks
great, but the dorms being ready on time looks tight. Tom is working with the
headmaster on developing a 10 year plan.
In summary, the
people of the surrounding area of Bibiani are very thankful for the visit.
Tom will have
much more when he returns to Georgia.
Please pray for
the safe return of the mssion team
God Bless

Plans
We are planning a medical mission to
Fr. Simon's town in Ghana during April 24th - May 4th, 2008. It may be all
10 days or one or two days less. The location will be Bibiani, Western Region,
Ghana. An organization called "Helping Hands" is a Catholic medical
mission organization working with us on the trip. Heading this group are 2
doctors who are members of St. Benedict's parish. We have at least 3
doctors so far. Two surgeons and a pediatrician. We would like at least two
more. We very much need nurses for surgery. A good scrub nurse is highest
priority. We also need nurses for triage at the clinic.
The
cost will be approximately $2000. That includes transportation, lodging and
food. There shouldn't be a need for any other expenses on the trip. You will
have to get about $700 worth of shots and pills before you go as well as a visa.
We need at least 10 volunteers to help in the clinic for everything from administrative duties to run the Pharmacy, to being 'people movers'- getting people from point A to point B.
We will have an informational meeting after thanksgiving when we will try to get more specific. We are looking at the team forming by the end of the year. Prayerfully consider helping out in some way and send an email note to Juliana Clements at julianaclements@yahoo.com. Indicate what you would like to do to help. Thank you.
Here are the other needs we have as we prep. See if you can help with any of these.
We would appreciate so much if your club, or your
children's school or sports team etc. would collect some of the following items:
Tooth brushes
Tooth paste
Small religious items
Plastic Rosaries
Holy Cards, etc.
If you are unable to help with this collection please pray for the success of our medical mission. Thank you and God bless you all.
Send a note to Mon. Marren via email at admin@standrewcatholic.com. Indicate what supplies you would like to donate. You will be contacted with directions on where to deliver them. Thank you.
